Trump orders DHS to stop home inspection of buyers, sellers, renters

Axios – The Trump administration has ordered DHS to halt inspections of homes, and to “strictly enforce” a requirement to notify the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) within 30 days of a sale or rental.

The order, announced by Acting Secretary Richard Cordray on Friday, was in response to a report by the Congressional Budget Office that said Trump’s executive order requiring DHS to notify HUD of all home inspections was in violation of the law.

The report also found that in at least two instances, the DHS inspector general’s office was unaware of violations of the housing act.DHS said the order would not apply to home inspections carried out by the Office of Personnel Management, the Office for Civil Rights, or other agencies.

The Trump administration had asked the federal court to strike down the order.
